Lead expert group

The Global Panel's Foresight 1.0 was led by six experts in food, nutrition and food systems. They are:

Dr Lawrence Haddad (Chair)

Lawrence is Chair of the Global Panel Foresight 1.0 Lead Expert Group; and Executive Director of Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). Until September 2016, he was Senior Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute. Previously, he was Director at the Institute of Development Studies (2004-2014). Lawrence is also the former co-Chair of the Global Nutrition Report. He is an economist and his main research interests are the intersection of poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition.

Prof Charles Godfray

Charles is Hope Professor at the Department of Zoology at the University of Oxford, with a focus on population and community ecology and evolutionary biology. He is also President of the British Ecological Society and Chair of the Lead Expert Group of the Foresight Food and Farming.

Prof Corinna Hawkes

Corinna is Director of the Centre for Food Policy at City, University of London. She is also co-chair of the Global Nutrition Report's International Expert Group, a senior advisor at LCIRAH and Professor of Food Policy at City University London’s Centre. Her research focuses on food system policies and diet and nutrition. Corinna is a member of the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems (IPES-Food).

Dr Camilla Toulmin

Camilla is Senior Fellow at International Institute for Environment and Development. Camilla is an economist with particular expertise on dryland Africa. Her work has combined field research, policy analysis and advocacy. Her interests include building alliances with those on the frontline of sustainable development and land rights in Africa. Her current work focuses on climate change, property rights, global governance and natural resources.

Prof Jeff Waage

Jeff is former Director at London International Development Centre (2007 - 2016) and Chair of LCIRAH. He is also the Technical Advisor to the Global Panel Secretariat. He has a background in international agricultural research for development. His career has been split between academia, as a former Professor and head of agricultural and environment departments at Imperial College, London and international work, as Chief Executive of the intergovernmental agency CABI Bioscience.

Prof Patrick Webb

Patrick is Professor at Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tutfts University. Patrick is Director for the US Government’s Feed the Future Nutrition Innovation Lab, as well as Principal Investigator for USAID’s Food Aid Quality Review. He is also the Policy and Evidence Advisor to the Global Panel. His main research interests are food security, humanitarian policy and practice, development policy, agriculture and food systems, micronutrient deficiencies and methods of delivery.
